FAQ's

What is FDA clearance and why should I care about it?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires all medical devices to be cleared for the safety of the consumer.  The LANDR lens case is a Class II medical device which means it's moderate-to-high risk and non-implantable.  This is because the case itself touches the lens solution which touches the contact lens that you put onto your eyeball.  Extra fact: there are many cases on the market that are not FDA cleared.  The FDA tries their best to remove these devices but they can't catch them all!

Why is your lens case made of plastic?

During the initial research and development phase, we looked into making the cases of a biodegradable material.  The problem with that became clear rather quickly - a biodegradable case would start biodegrading while your lens was stored inside it and could cause contamination!  We also thought about making the case out of metal.  While the metal prototype looked and felt super cool, we found that the metal reacted with the saline solution.  Polyproplene is a very stable plastic that will keep your lens (and eyes) safe.

What makes the LANDR lens case different than the free ones I get with my solution?

After over five years of research and development, we've designed a lens case that doesn't leak, even on airplanes and after getting tossed around in your bag.  The internal shape of the lens wells ensures that your lenses stay in the solution, even when upside down.  The two sides of the case separate for easy storage and to create a slimmer profile in your dopp kit.  And it doesn't look too bad sitting on your counter, either.

Why is there only one color option?

Remember the FDA?  Well, they require intensive biocompatibility testing for each color additive we add to the injection molding process.  It takes quite a bit of funding and up to a year to complete.  Being a small business, we decided to start with one color and expand as we grow.  Stay tuned!

What if my gasket pops out when I take the cap off?

This is part of the design.  Looking forward, we designed the gasket to be easily removed so that the case can be washed and reused indefinitely (kind of like your emotional support water bottle).  The FDA has not approved this yet but we are working on it in the name of sustainability!  In the meantime, just pop it back in and it will function as intended.  If you lose or need a replacement gasket, just shoot us an email and we will get you a freshie!

Why is the LANDR lens case larger than the freebie I get with my solution?

We designed the LANDR lens case to be robust and leakproof.  These extra functionalities add a little more material to the case.  When I travel, I just separate the two sides and they slide right into a pocket on my dopp kit.  Separating the two sides also doubles as fidget toy.  We've tested thousands of cycles so feel free to snap it apart all day (or flight) long!

Sometimes it takes a second to get the threads lined up to close the case. What gives?

There are three "drop in" points for the locking mechanism.  This is part of the leakproof design and is much more secure than a normal bottle thread.  You know when the case is fully closed when you twist and hit the stop lock.

Why is the case made in China?

China has some of the most stringent medical device production facilities on the planet.  The LANDR lens case is injection molded in a clean room under very strict tolerances.  We looked at many different countries for production, including the USA, and settled on a factory named Innoseek.  They work with small businesses such as LANDR and have been very supportive throughout the process!

Where was the LANDR lens case designed?

Boise, ID and on many international flights!

Can I store any type of lens in the LANDR lens case?

The short answer is yes!  We designed the case to accommodate even the largest of medical lenses.  In the fine print, you'll see that the case is intended for storage of soft, rigid gas-permeable or rigid lenses.
